Question 1

Who is N&N Heating and Cooling?

Accepted Answer

We are heat pump specialists founded in 2023 by Noah Applebome and Nathan Surface, focusing on helping Northern Westchester County homeowners transition from oil/gas heating to efficient air source heat pumps. As owner-operators with over 10 years of experience, we personally oversee each project from design through installation.

Question 2

What makes heat pumps a better choice than traditional heating systems?

Accepted Answer

Heat pumps provide both heating and cooling in one efficient system, typically operating at 300% efficiency during winter heating days. They can significantly reduce your heating costs compared to oil or gas systems, improve indoor air quality by eliminating fuel combustion, and help reduce your home’s carbon footprint by up to 40%.

Question 3

Can heat pumps really work in cold New York winters?

Accepted Answer

Yes! Modern heat pumps, especially our Mitsubishi systems, are designed specifically for cold climates. We size our equipment for 10°F temperatures, and they perform effectively even in negative temperatures. We can provide detailed performance data and connect you with current customers who have lived through full winters with their heat pump systems.

Question 4

What rebates and incentives are available?

Accepted Answer

NYSEG currently offers substantial clean heat rebates:
- $1,200 per 10,000 BTUs when decommissioning your existing boiler/fuel heating system.
- $1,000 per 10,000 BTUs for full load heat pump heating while keeping your boiler as backup.
A typical 3,000 square foot home may qualify for approximately $10,000 in rebates. We handle all rebate paperwork and documentation, providing an instant discount on your installation.

Question 5

What kind of energy savings can I expect?

Accepted Answer

Most customers see:
- Winter savings: Generally 50% or more when switching from an oil-fed boiler.
- Summer savings: Typically 50% or more when upgrading from single-stage AC to variable speed.
- Typical payback period: Around 5 years, depending on home size, thermostat settings, and insulation.

Question 6

What areas do you service?

Accepted Answer

We primarily serve Bedford, NY and surrounding areas including Pound Ridge, Waccabuc, Armonk, Mount Kisco, South Salem, Bedford Hills, Katonah, North Salem, Chappaqua, and Goldens Bridge within a 25-mile radius.

Question 7

What warranties do you offer?

Accepted Answer

As a Mitsubishi Diamond Contractor, we offer a 12-year parts and equipment warranty (2 years longer than standard), plus a 5-year labor warranty when enrolled in our maintenance plan.

Question 8

Do I need to keep my existing heating system as backup?

Accepted Answer

Not necessarily. We design systems with built-in redundancy, typically using multiple heat pumps for reliable heating. Some homes with radiant floor heating may benefit from a dual-fuel system, but most can fully transition to heat pumps.

Question 9

How should I operate my heat pump system for best results?

Accepted Answer

Unlike traditional systems, heat pumps work best when maintaining a consistent temperature. We recommend setting and maintaining your desired temperature rather than frequent adjustments, keeping the temperature within a few degrees year-round.

Question 10

What maintenance do heat pumps require?

Accepted Answer

Heat pump maintenance is straightforward, requiring regular filter changes, occasional cleaning of outdoor condenser coils, and periodic cleaning of condensate drains – essentially the same basic maintenance as a traditional air conditioning system.

Question 11

Where is Westchester County, New York located?

Accepted Answer

Westchester County is located in southeastern New York, just north of New York City. It stretches from the Hudson River on the west to the Long Island Sound on the east, creating a perfect blend of scenic waterfronts, suburban neighborhoods, and vibrant downtown areas. Bordered by Putnam County to the north and Connecticut to the east, Westchester serves as a gateway between the energy of the city and the peaceful charm of the Hudson Valley. Its close proximity to Manhattan—just 30 to 45 minutes by train or car—makes it a popular spot for commuters who want more space and a slower pace without losing access to big-city amenities.
